It can also be caused by too much pressure applied to the newborn’s skull, which can happen if the child gets stuck during labor, or the doctor pulls too forcefully while delivering the child.

How Long Does Cephalohematoma Last?

Cephalohematoma can last a varying amount of time depending on its severity:

• Mild: In mild cases, cephalohematoma can be resolved within a few days and with minimal treatments.
• Moderate: In moderate cases, the blood bump caused by cephalohematoma might take weeks or months to clear, and there could be a risk of complications.
• Severe: In severe cases, cephalohematoma will not heal correctly and a doctor might need to drain the blood buildup manually.

Is Cephalohematoma Dangerous?

Do not mistake cephalohematoma as just a “cosmetic” injury that will go away on its own. The blood buildup could be an indication of a severe head injury or another complication.
