The Realities of Spinal Cord Injury
Damage to the spinal cord can happen in an instant – in a car accident on I-40, in a construction site accident, or a slip and fall at a local grocery store. The outcome of spinal cord injuries can be devastating, leading to paralysis, loss of motor control, chronic pain, and permanent disability. The location of the injury on the spine determines the area affected by paralysis. Severity can range from incomplete, in which partial movement and sensation remain below the level of the injury, to complete, with a total loss of function and feeling below the affected area.
