What Is Cerebral Palsy?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
“Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture.”
Cerebral means of the brain, and palsy means weakness or problems with the muscles. Diagnoses of cerebral palsy can range in severity, meaning some children may be unable to walk and others may simply walk with a slightly awkward gait. Still, all people with CP have problems with movement and posture. Often, children with CP develop other disabilities, as well. For example, a child with CP may also have a learning disability, seizures, problems with their senses, or problems in the spine and/or joints.
