What Are the Causes of Amputation Injuries?
Amputation is the loss or removal of a body part, such as an arm, leg, foot, hand, finger, or toe. Traumatic injury accounts for approximately 45% of all amputations, as stated by John Hopkins Medicine. A body part may be cut or torn away in a serious accident, or it may be so severely damaged from crush injuries or third-degree burns that it is impossible to repair or endangers the victim’s life and must be removed by surgical amputation. Common causes of traumatic amputation include motor vehicle accidents, workplace accidents, industrial accidents, and combat injuries.
