What Is the Law on Hit and Run in Mississippi?
State law on leaving the scene of an accident is found in the Mississippi Code Section 63-3-401. Any driver involved in an accident that results in injury, death, or property damage must stop immediately, offer assistance, and provide contact and insurance information to the parties involved. Leaving the scene without fulfilling these obligations is a felony offense, punishable by a prison term of five to 20 years, a fine of $1,000 to $10,000, or both, if the accident results in catastrophic injury or death. With less serious injuries, this crime still carries prison time and fines.
